Nonhomologous end joining genetic polymorphisms, and particularly the DNA ligase IV (LIG4) reference single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs1805388, may modulate the risk of radiation pneumonitis (RP) in patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer who receive definitive radio(chemo)therapy. The current results indicated that, once validated, LIG4 SNPs may be useful biomarkers for susceptibility to RP, and larger independent studies will be needed to validate these findings.
