The current results confirm the ability of a newly developed prognostic index to predict the time to first treatment in patients with previously untreated chronic lymphocytic leukemia who have early stage disease, and the findings extend the utility of the model to patients with Rai stage 0 disease. In addition, an analysis of the actual and predicted time to first treatment outcomes reveals good agreement, suggesting that results provided by the model are well calibrated externally.
