Pannexin1 is localized in the whole cell membrane of type 3a OFF bipolar cells and in dendritic and axonal processes of horizontal cells in the mouse retina. Electrophysiological recordings of Pannexin1 knock-out mice revealed changes in light properties of the scotopic electroretinogram. The specific localization of Pannexin1 in the outer plexiform layer and the electrophysiological data suggest its involvement in negative feedback mechanisms to photoreceptor cells.
