Spine neck dimensions influence the input resistance of spines, hence the higher the spine neck resistance, the greater the spine head depolarization, which could increase sensitivity to plastic changes. This hypothesis was tested using EM reconstructions and the results suggest that forms of plasticity that lead to larger synapses are independent of spine neck resistance.
