This work analyzes the expression patterns of the Pax6 and Pax7 genes in the adult CNS of a urodele amphibian. Our results show that the expressions of these genes are widely maintained in the adult brain, in contrasts with the situation found of other tetrapods, and this discrepancy could be due to pedomorphic features of the urodele brain. The findings support the idea that these genes might be largely operative in adult urodeles.
