Switching and tuning photophysical properties, particularly the solid-state fluorescence of small organic molecules, has attracted great attention owing to the recent emergence of optoelectronic technologies. The strategies (see figure) that have been used effectively to modify the solid-state fluorescence properties are discussed in this Review.
