Stain removal: The photochemistry of aluminium phthalocyanine (AlPc) and its use in chromophore-assisted laser inactivation has been studied in cell-free and cell-based systems. In the former system, the photosensitiser recovers its fluorescence signal through a reversible photobleaching–phosphorescence process (see figure). In the cell-based system, photoactivation of antibody-conjugated AlPc results in irreversible loss of fluorescence signal.
