Porous, nitrogen-doped carbons can be facilely synthesized from task-specific ionic liquids (TSILs) via high-yield carbonization reactions. These nitrogen-doped carbonaceous materials exhibit an exceptional CO2 absorption capacity because of the strong interaction between CO2 and the nitrogen-containing basic sites within the carbon frameworks.
