Perfectly tailored lignin: The effect of methanol fractionation on the molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, glass transition temperature, thermal decomposition, and chemical structure of lignin are investigated. As a result, properties can be tailored to obtain high-performance lignin-based materials and the content of the low molecular weight fraction can be empirically correlated to its physical characteristics.
