MOFs shape up: A protocol is reported with which the size of hexagonal bipyramidal crystals of an Al metal–organic framework (Al-MOF) can be controlled in the 100–2000 nm range by changing the reaction duration and temperature through a nucleation–growth mechanism. A self-assembly phenomenon is also reported in which hollow spheres are formed by the spontaneous organization of triangular-sheet building blocks.
