The back cover shows the synthesis of nanocellulose fibers (NCFs) from biomass resources such as wood and cotton. Containing both crystalline and amorphous regions, NCFs show properties of interest for a wide range of applications. Zeng et al. report the fabrication of various types of NCFs and their self-aggregation into different types of aerogels. Based on these different types, a possible mechanism concerning the self-aggregation of NCFs into 2D-sheet-like or 3D-web-like aerogel nanostructures is proposed. The NCF aerogels exhibit excellent properties for water uptake, removal of dye pollutants, use as thermal insulation materials, and high sound-adsorption capability at high frequencies.
