This review aims to provide an overview of some of the challenges in correlating surface science, plasma polymerization, and biology. Functional, plasma-polymerized films are discussed as biosensitive interfaces that may be tailored for specific biological interactions. Aspects such as adhesion improvement, solvent effects, protein binding, and cell adhesion are discussed.
