Mauro Santos, Luis E. Castañeda and Enrico L. Rezende Keeping pace with climate change: what is wrong with the evolutionary potential of upper thermal limits? Ecology and Evolution 2
We show that realized heritabilities for knockdown temperatures agree with empirically reported estimates, but the true heritability of CTmax can be grossly underestimated. Our findings have important repercussions for understanding the evolution of thermotolerance and may change the way people think about the evolutionary potential of physiological limits.
