A new dissymmetric thiosemicarbazone ligand with a hydrazonequinoline arm and its chloride salt were synthesized. The reactivity of both ligands with cadmium and mercury nitrate was explored. Both showed fluorescence emission, although the neutral ligand is more fluorescent than the salt. Complexation quenches the fluorescence emission, especially when the ligand is singly or doubly deprotonated.
