Reaction of deprotonated RC(S)NHP(S)(OiPr)₂ [R = EtNH (HL^I), iPrNH (HL^II), Et₂N (HL^III), 2,5-Me₂C₆H₃NH (HL^IV), 4-Me₂NC₆H₄NH (HL^V)] with Ni^II leads to [NiL^I–V₂]. The metal atom is found to be in a square-planar trans-N₂S₂ ([NiL^II,IV₂]) or in a square-planar trans-S₂S′₂ ([NiL^I,III₂]) environment. Reaction of L^V with Ni^II leads to [Ni(L-1,3-N,S)₂] or [Ni(L-1,5-S,S′)₂]·(CH₃)₂C=O crystals.
