A tetranuclear peroxotungstate [H{W2O2(O2)4(μ-O)}2]3– (I) showed high catalytic activity for epoxidation with H2O2. On the basis of the kinetic, mechanistic, spectroscopic, and theoretical investigations, it was found that I is the active species and that oxygen transfer from I to a C=C double bond is the rate-determining step.
