A new and simple solvothermal route involving an ionic liquid system containing cupric metal ions for producing 1D CuO nanorods at low temperature is reported. The 1D CuO nanorods exhibited the largest specific capacitance and highest Coulombic efficiencies compared with three other samples. Thus, the 1D CuO nanorods are promising for the future development of supercapacitors.
