With the goal of developing ligands that support intramolecular hydrogen-bonding networks, we prepared a series of 2,6-pyridinedicarboxamide ligands featuring outer-sphere heterocycles (pyridine, pyrimidine, or quinoline rings). These pincer ligands coordinate to CuII centers in a tridentate fashion, and the protonated heterocycles form hydrogen bonds with first-sphere chlorido or aqua ligands.
