The synthesis as well as structural and thermal studies of the ternary ceramic Li2xZn1–xO are presented. The Li2xZn1–xO (space group P63mc, a = 3.2549, c = 5.2073 Å) phase forms under the action of two processes: the partial substitution of zinc atoms by lithium atoms and the inclusion of additional lithium atoms at the 2a site. At temperatures >700 °C, the ternary phase begins to decompose.
