The ability of the SPH solvers to describe the evolution of circulation/vorticity is studied in detail. The deviations of the numerical solutions from the inviscid analytical solution is investigated, and the conservation of the circulation/vorticity in SPH simulations is analyzed using different test cases of increasing complexity. The dynamics of the vorticity generation during breaking wave process is discussed through SPH simulations, and the role of the artificial viscosity in the context of free-surface flows is commented on.
