A new hyperspectral darkfield imaging system with a scanned broadband supercontinuum light source is presented. The specific attachment of functionalized gold nanoparticles targeting CD44+ cancer cells by conventional and by proposed hyperspectral darkfield microscopy is observed. This wide-field and low phototoxic system allows spectral 3D localization and spectroscopic identification of nanoparticles in a complex cellular environment. Such information is essential for the improvement of imaging, detection and treatment of diseases.
