A self optimising tree like classifier for the identification of particulate matter by means of Raman spectroscopy is presented. For that purpose a database of Raman spectra of organic and inorganic components of particulate matter is measured and used for the training of the decision tree. The tree optimises itself by the choice of the best method and simulated annealing for finding the best parameters of the support vector machines.
