A new method for the sampling of very tiny amounts of organic dyes is presented, accomplishing a good reproducibility of the SERS enhancement. The dyes’ extraction was obtained applying an agar gel loaded with silver nanoparticles directly onto mock-ups colored with alizarin, purpurin and carminic acid. SERS measurements were then performed on the surface of the Ag-agar gel probe to laser light in a micro-Raman setup.

The feasibility of the method has been demonstrated on a real colored ancient textile.
