We applied Raman microscopy to gain insights into the interactions between cyanobacterial extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and dolomite in Khor Al-Adaid sabkha (Qatar) sediments. 2D Raman mapping indicated small dolomite clusters (<2 µm) embedded in a dense cyanobacterial EPS matrix. This study demonstrated that Raman spectroscopy is a robust and sensitive technique for acquisition of in situ information on cells–mineral interactions.
