The application of commercial dental Er: YAG pulse laser with λ=2940 nm has negligible effect on the mineral component of both permanent and deciduous teeth: the Ca-P-O framework of hydroxylapatite remains intact, and even the content of channel OH- is not changed within experimental uncertainties. UV Raman spectroscopy reveals only a laser-induced reduction of the content of CO32- incorporated into apatite and change of the protein conformation in a way which seems to resemble aging-induced conformation changes.
