Novel polymers of 5-phenyl-2-norbornene (PhNb) and 5-cyclohexyl-2-norbornene (CyNb) are synthesized using ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP). Though the ROMP initiator system and monomer endo/exo ratio have a negligible effect on the polymers' glass transition temperatures (Tg), hydrogenation of the side group consistently produces a 14 °C increase in Tg, whereas hydrogenation of the backbone produces a 17 °C decrease.
