Polypyrrole (PPy)/Au and PPy/Pt hybrid nanotubes are fabricated by a facile solution reduction procedure using PPy nanotubes as the support. The conducting polymer PPy nanotubes are synthesized by templating against MnO2 nanowires. The metal content in the nanocomposites can be tuned by simply changing the amount of metal precursor. This work provides an efficient and general approach to metal/conducting polymer hybrid nanotubes that are potentially useful for electrocatalyst and sensor materials.
