Eva Meler, Elena Scazzocchio, Anna Peguero, Stefania Triunfo, Eduard Gratacos and Francesc Figueras Role of maternal plasma levels of placental growth factor for the prediction of maternal complications in preeclampsia according to the gestational age at onset Prenatal Diagnosis 34

Version of Record online: 8 JUL 2014 | DOI: 10.1002/pd.4390

What's already known about this topic?

  • Our manuscript could be the counterpoint to the emerging concept that placental biomarkers could be good predictors of maternal complications at the onset of preeclampsia. Studies had evaluated PlGF as a useful parameter to identify those patients at higher risk of adverse outcomes.

What does this study add?

  • According to our results, the predictive role of a low PlGF level in very early PE would be limited as most patients had low concentrations at onset.
