A new compressive-shear approach to measure adhesion of photovoltaic encapsulants to glass is presented. Evolution of ethylene-vinyl acetate and polyvinyl-butyral adhesion to glass through damp-heat degradation is characterized. It is shown that an energy based metric is necessary to describe the evolution of adhesion, which is positive in the case of ethylene-vinyl acetate and negative in the case of polyvinyl-butyral.
