The three widely used controlled/living radical polymerization techniques (NMP, ATRP, and RAFT) have been successfully implemented as heterogeneous polymerizations (dispersion and/or precipitation) in supercritical CO2. Well-defined polymer particle morphology and microstructure have been achieved. Most recently precipitation NMP in scCO2 has been shown to proceed to high conversion with better control over the molecular weight distribution than the corresponding solution polymerization.
