We have compared PSCs fabricated using binary and ternary blend systems. To compare ternary blending system, single-component copolymers consisting of repeating units of the two individual polymers, which were used as the electron-donating materials in the ternary blend system, were designed and synthesized by a Suzuki coupling polymerization. Under optimized conditions, the single-component copolymers in the binary blend system yielded PCEs in the range 3.87–-4.16% under AM 1.5 illumination (100 mW/cm2).
