Two model polymers with the same chemical composition except the location of acceptor, that is, side-chain (S-polymer) or main-chain (M-polymer), have been synthesized. Better performaces in polymer solar cells (PSCs) and field-effect transistor (FETs) were obtained from M-polymer, due to longer effective conjugation length and more coplanar structure. This study provides important insights into the design of ideal structure-–property relationships for conjugated polymers in FETs and PSCs.
