Three different styrene-based monomers connected to a model of the active site of the [FeFe] hydrogenase enzyme are synthesized. The model derivatives could successfully copolymerized by a controlled radical polymerization technique. The incorporation of the [2Fe2S]-hexacarbonyl-cluster is analysed and discussed in detail. It is shown that the biomimetic metal centers keep their activity and redox behavior after the polymerization into the copolymer chains.
