Alternating terpolymer, sa-PMI-BVEs, were synthesized from the radical copolymerization of phenylmaleimide with sulfonamide acid groups (sa-PMI), phenylmaleimide (PMI), and n-butyl vinyl ether and their film formability and electrolyte properties were compared with sa-PMI-ST that were synthesized from sa-PMI, PMI, and styrene. Finally, gel filling membrane, sa-PMI-BVE-gel, was used for H2/O2 fuel cell and good performance (OCV and current density at 0.3 V were about 0.95 V and 0.65 A cm−2, respectively) was obtained.
