X-ray absorption fine structure experiments reveal the interaction between iron nanoparticles synthesized with both 2,4-pentanedione and hexaethylene glycol monododecylether ligands. Oxidized species of iron exist at the nanoparticles’ surface and can be attributed to iron/ligand interactions.
