Photoinduced ordering transitions are successfully performed in azo-dendrimer-dissolved nematic, cholesteric, and smectic-A liquid crystal droplets dispersed in a glycerol matrix. Spontaneously attached photo-isomerizable dendrimer molecules at the droplet surfaces provide a possible way to control orientation in microdroplet systems, in which the interface cannot be treated by conventional surface agents.
