Salicylhydroxamic acid ligands were successfully conjugated to polypeptides to afford 20 conjugates that were screened for myeloperoxidase (MPO) binding using surface plasmon resonance. Several conjugates bound specifically to MPO and by orders of magnitude stronger than the ligand salicylhydroxamic acid alone. These molecules are promising biomarkers for MPO.
