P-type thin films composed of earth abundant elements (Cu, Zn, S) have been synthesized by Anthony M. Diamond et al. (pp. 2101–2107). The performance of these films is comparable to some of the best reports in the literature for p-type transparent oxides, with conductivities as high as 54.4 S cm−1 and optical transparencies of greater than 70% across the visible spectrum. As shown on the cover, the Campanile of the University of California at Berkeley is visible through a transparent heterojunction diode made of p-CuZnS and n-ZnO.
