Dye-sensitized solar cells offer the prospect of low-cost and high-efficiency devices for harvesting solar energy. A novel chlorinetype porphyrin is designed as a remedy for electronic defects in a previously synthesized sensitizer. Quantum chemical calculations are supplemented with calculations of the open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current. The obtained values suggest an optimal design for experimental work.
