Real-world application of wireless sensor networks is characterized by a setting of multiple owners and users. These parties only trust each other partially, mandating security mechanisms that can differentiate between parties and resources involved whilst respecting the nature of the target network. This paper presents lightweight, fine-grained security mechanisms and advocates selectively injecting the mechanisms only where needed, hereby providing large resource savings. Validation is performed through a river monitoring case and simulations.
