Cowpea mosaic virus (CPMV) particles have been decorated on their external surface with 240 redox-active, organometallic, ferrocenecarboxylate moieties (see Figure). The multiple redox centers behave as electronically isolated units and the electrochemical reaction is diffusion controlled. This expands the versatility of CPMV as a nanoscaffold for electrochemical biosensor or nanoelectronic device applications.
