Ordered mesoporous tungsten carbide/graphitic carbon nanocomposites with nanocrystalline walls are prepared by a temperature-programmed carburization route with mesoporous silica SBA-15 and KIT-6 as hard templates and phosphotungstic acid as a precursor (see image). Two carburization approaches can be adopted to obtain tungsten carbide products with different mesostructures.
