Double-layered core/shell titania/silica nanotubes are fabricated using bacterial flagella as templates in aqueous solution under ambient conditions. The thickness of either the titania or silica layers is tunable by varying the concentration of the precursor solutions. After calcination, the inner titania layer is transformed into a nanocrystalline phase and dispersed close to the central tunnel of the nanotubes.
