Using a novel lipid bubble injection technique, a microfluidic adaptation of Montal–Mueller bilayer folding is achieved in a thermoplastic chip supporting simultaneous optical and electrical monitoring and fluidic access to each membrane leaflet. The dynamic process of folding an asymmetric bilayer from two distinct lipid monolayersisprobed. The real-time emergence, movement, and coalescence of lipid microdomains is also investigated.
