A novel electrochemical strategy to detect and quantify circulating tumor cells (CTCs) based on the selective labeling with electrocatalytic nanoparticles is achieved. The proposed sensor is a rapid and simple detection device that uses specific antibody/AuNP conjugates to recognize tumor cells in suspension followed by fast electrochemical detection in a user friendly platform.
