Single-walled carbon nanotubes grafted with polystyrene chains exhibit an inter-chain separation that is consistent with the grafted chains being in a swollen random walk conformation. The molecular weight of the grafted chains significantly affects the mechanical properties of nanotube films, where the modulus and strength scale linearly with graft density.
