Traditional in vitro chemotaxis tools have limited quantitative ability. Using a microfluidic gradient generator, it was identified that a simple pre-treatment with brain-derived neurotrophic factor can enable neural stem cell chemotaxis towards CXCL12 (aka SDF-1a) without altering migration speed. These data provide quantitative guidance in the development of new strategies to enhance neural stem cell homing for tissue regeneration therapies.
