The phase lag of the long axis of nickel nanorods with respect to externally applied rotating magnetic fields significantly increases on the adhesion of protein to their surfaces. This is a result of the enlarged hydrodynamic volume-dependent drag torque. Via measurements of the sample's transmission in linearly polarized light, this change in rotational dynamics is monitored.
