Although CrO3 and chromate(VI) salts are familiar laboratory chemicals, most compounds containing CrVI or CrV are highly reactive and easily reduced, and those of CrV are prone to disproportionation. As a result although CrO2Cl2 was first described by Berzelius (1824) and its ability to activate C–H bonds reported by Étard (1877), relatively few complexes of CrO2Cl2 or CrOCl3 have been characterised in detail. The cover pictures shows structures of several examples and their interconversions which are discussed in the paper by Levason, Reid and Zhang on pp. 35ff.
