In ferret parietal cortex, bimodal neurons (demonstrate spiking responses to independent stimulation from different sensory modalities: A and B) exhibited significantly higher response levels (to stimulus modality A alone, B alone) than did their unisensory counterparts (spiking response influenced by stimulation from only one sensory modality: A). Thus, it can no longer be assumed that bimodal and unisensory neurons respond similarly to a given external stimulus.
